Description of Capstone Project
Skateboarding is often seen as a masculine activity, and the subculture surrounding the sport more often caters to male interests and a “masculine” aesthetic. Females who skateboard are a minority within the skate community and the focus of this capstone is to identify how female skateboarders are perceived in the skating community and how does this perception affect their participation and presence in skateboard culture? By creating a series of skateboards targeted to females, this capstone aims to acknowledge the hard work of female skateboarders, encourage beginners to keep persevering, and to attract new females to the sport.
