Neighbourhood – Exploring Gender Non-Conformity
Description of Capstone Project
The creative portion of my capstone will consist of interviews and photographs of approximately 10 individuals in Toronto’s gender non-conforming community. Participants represent a diverse range of gender identities, sexual orientations and cultural backgrounds. The final product will be formatted in book reminiscent of a newspaper in size and paperweight but the tone will read more like a zine. The ‘newspaper’ is called Neighbourhood and will feature the images, interviews and art/creative endeavours of the participants. The goals of the project are to represent the diversity of gender expression and gender non-conformity, give a voice to the marginalized, and shed light on gender as a spectrum rather than a fixed binary.
